My work is focused in three areas. First, I participate in a variety of clinical trials that investigate the utility of new antifungal agents in human infection. My work in this area has focused primarily on invasive fungal infections of the critically-ill non-neutropenic adult.

Second, my laboratory is involved in a variety of studies on the technical aspects of in vitro susceptibility testing. I am a member of the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards' Antifungal Susceptibility Testing Subcommittee (NCCLS). Through the work done in my laboratory with this committee, I have had the opportunity to participate in the development of the M27 and M38 documents on susceptibility testing of yeasts and moulds, respectively.

Third, my laboratory uses animal models of invasive fungal infections to investigate better ways to treat these infections in humans. We investigate both new drugs and new ways to make better use of old drugs. These studies are often directly tied to better understanding of ways to use in vitro susceptibility testing to predict response to infection.
