Dr. Thomas F. Patterson is currently Professor of Medicine in Infectious Diseases and Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. He is also an Attending Physician at the South Texas Veterans Healthcare System, Audie Murphy Division, San Antonio and Director of the Inpatient HIV-service at University Hospital in San Antonio.
He has extensive experience in opportunistic fungal infections. His clinical and research interests focus on the diagnosis and treatment of fungal diseases particularly in immunocompromised hosts. He has been involved in developing new antifungal drugs and in clinical trials of new antifungal compounds.
Dr. Patterson has published and lectured extensively on fungal infections. His publications have appeared in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, the Annals of Internal Medicine, the American Journal of Medicine, and Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. He is currently serving as a member of the ICAAC Program Committee. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is Past-President of the Texas Infectious Disease Society.
